Moho River and BarrancoHead into Toledo’s ‘deep south’ to discover the fascinating ‘Garifuna’ costal settlement of Barranco, and explore the Moho River – one of Toledo’s major rivers, rich with flora and fauna. Leaving from Punta Gorda by boat, you head south through the shallow coastal waters to the village of Barranco, named for the ‘red cliffs’ on which it sits. Here you’ll learn more about the fascinating history of the Garinagu people, their language, religion, and customs, and their journey to Belize via Roatan. After your traditional Garinagu lunch a short boat-ride north brings you to the mouth of the Moho River, one of Toledo’s major rivers, and home to a vast array of wildlife. Heading upstream you will learn about the surrounding forest, plants and animals, before visiting the Maya villages of Boom Creek and Santa Ana. Cool off in the rapids and rock pools in the shade of the Santa Ana bridge before your return journey to Punta Gorda. Guide price approximately US$80 per person (based on 3 passengers) | ![]() ![]() |
